Welcome to Fife Walking Club

Fife Walking Club Information for New or Prospective Members

We are a walking club offering guided walks of different lengths and difficulty in varied locations, most of which are in Fife, though we venture into Perth & Kinross, Angus and the Lothians. We also offer an annual Lakes Week based in Keswick in April as well as a three daybreak which in September 2026 will be held in Northumberland. Please note that we cannot provide transportation but encourage our members to car-share.

Walkers cannot be accompanied by dogs.

The Club is headed up by a committee whose officers are: Barbara Fotheringham, Chair; Angela Drennan, Secretary; Clare Darling, Treasurer; Mike Livesey, Walks Convenor; Alison Stewart, Membership Secretary; and David Thomson, Webmaster. There are a further seven members of the committee. Any queries or messages will be forwarded to the appropriate committee member.

The quarterly walks are sent to all members with contact details for the walk leader. Please book, at the latest, the day before the walk. Note the meeting point and time which will usually be 10 or 10:30, but may vary if there is a bus to catch or a high tide to avoid, for instance. Walkers are usually there 15 minutes before the start time in order to put on their boots, check in with the leader, etc.

We usually have a coffee break about an hour into the walk, and for a picnic lunch at a suitable stopping point. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a sit mat (or even just a plastic bag).

The advice on the Walkers’ Guide about appropriate clothing and footwear is important; if the leader feels you are inadequately equipped, they can decline to take you on the walk. No trainers, no jeans. They soak up water and very quickly feel cold. It is not necessary to wear branded walking trousers, but they should be lightweight and quick drying. Waterproofs are essential for obvious reasons.

We are a friendly bunch who all enjoy walking, so we hope you will come along and give us a try.
